The world of celebrity is a strange and wonderful place. But like everyone else, celebrities need walls to protect them from prying eyes and a home that can stand as a statement piece. And for the most part, they need a lot of money to afford it all. In fact, the most expensive homes of a celebrity can cost more than the average American would pay in a year’s salary. To get a better idea of what that might look like, we decided to take a deep dive into the luxury properties of 128 celebrities and see what they had to offer.
As it turns out, many celebrity houses include some pretty incredible features, including bowling alleys, oxygen therapy rooms and underground vaults. We found that the most expensive celebrity homes cost an average of over $11.5 million and had an interior area that measured more than 10,000 square feet. That comes out to a cost per square foot of approximately $122 per square foot.
Some of the most expensive celebrity homes are located in coveted neighborhoods such as Beverly Hills and Bel-Air in California and Park Avenue in New York City. Others are a little more remote. A few celebrities, such as Jennifer Aniston and Kanye West, have a penchant for minimalistic design. Aniston’s LA abode is the epitome of chic living, with a neutral color palette and an expansive art collection that includes works by Awol Erizku, Kerry James Marshall and Laurie Simmons. But there’s more to this beautiful home than meets the eye: It also has a high-powered backup generator and bulletproof windows, among other things.
When it comes to the most expensive celebrity homes, the list is dominated by tech moguls and entertainment royalty. Jeff Bezos has the most expensive primary residence, which he purchased for an astounding $165 million. The second most expensive primary residence belongs to Beyonce and Jay-Z, who paid an equally impressive $200 million for their Malibu property. And even though he no longer holds the title of richest man in the world, Elon Musk still pays a hefty price for his minimalistic Omaha home, spending almost 4,000 times more than Bezos.
